To put it this way, it really does not matter whether you have lost one or all your teeth, implantation offers a wide and varied solutions to any problem. The different implant sizes and various possibilities offer the optimal recovery to your natural teeth as well as your natural bite, as through nothing has happened. There is no age limit. Teeth that has been lost through an accident can be easily replaced with implantation. Young people especially can benefit from this treatment. It is a good alternative to removable dentures.
An implant is an artificial root made out of titan. It is set in the jaw bone, and either a local anesthetic or a general anesthetic will be administered. The titan root grows into the jaw. This offers an appropriate method for single teeth, bridges and prothesis, with a safe and solid hold.
In the area of teeth implantations there has a been great many advancements made. Significant improvements for the patient with teeth implants, is the three dimension implanting that is offered. The dental surgeon, must before any implanting can be made, throughly check and judge the condition of the jaws and bones. Furthermore attention must be paid when the implant is inserted into the jaw that nerves and roots from neighboring teeth are not harmed.
Position, depth and alignments must be exact. This is very important so that the implant holds tightly and permanently in position and functions like your own teeth.
By means of Computer tomography scanner the implants can be planed in a three dimensional way from pictures of your jaw bone area. The patient wears a special mould in his mouth with markings that can be seen in the xray. The xray will be read into the computer. The outcome is a three dimension picture showing, proportions, depth, positions and angles, so that an optimal implant can be planed.
After the initial healing period the final replacement teeth will be bonded to the implanted root. Various possibilities can be used with implanted roots. Bridges, crowns and prothesis. Total "palate free" prothesis are now possible. Thanks to this technology in many cases the method of using removable dentures can be avoided.
