Having access to water can be invaluable when you are working at certain job sites, but water is not always a readily available resource. If you run a construction business or some other type of company that relies on water, you may have to dig into the options that are available for taking your own water to a job site. Typically, this will involve renting a storage tank of some type to tote the water to the location.
Frac tanks are a logical option, and these tanks are relatively easy to find for rent. However, before using a franc tank for water storage and transport, you should know that it offers certain features. Here is a look at some of the questions to ask before renting one of these tanks for your water needs.
Is the frac tank stainless steel?
Most frac tanks are made out of steel, but not all of them will have the stainless steel lining that you want when you are toting and storing water. Stainless steel helps avoid issues with water quality, which can be important if the water will be used for certain work processes or projects.
Does the frac tank have good wheels for transport?
Transport wheels are definitely something to examine when you rent a frac tank. Some tanks will have small wheels that make the tank easier to pull onto a flatbed trailer for transport. However, you may also find tanks that are pre-mounted on their own trailer frames and have road-worthy wheels for transport, which can be the better option.
Does the tank have suction hoses or discharge hoses?
Suction and discharge hoses will make your life a lot easier when you fill up and discharge the tank. Some rental tanks will have the hoses already attached and included with the rental, but some rental places will also require you to supply your own hoses or rent them in addition to the tank itself.
How many gallons of water will the tank hold?
You can fully expect most frac tanks to hold thousands of gallons of water for sure. However, there can be varied sizes to pick from at the frac tank rental store, so make sure you know what you need, how much you can safely transport, and other factors so you get the tank that is the right size for your intended purpose. Keep in mind smaller tanks can be ideal, but they may not have all the same features as larger models.
